Several features of the programme of work merit a brief mention:
- New language can be introduced, especially in Stage One, through the use of very simple dialogues.
- A granularising approach to new language is used; in other words, grammar, new vocabulary, punctuation is delivered in smaller amounts than in the A1 Beginner courses currently on offer from the major publishers.
- We use 'glocalising' as a term to mean how we seek to use local places, people and events in Belfast and beyond to develop their confidence in using language can then use, regardless of where they are on earth.
- The listen > speak > read > write sequence should be observed strictly - nothing is written until it has been read several times; nothing is read until it has been spoken several times; and nothing is spoken until it has been heard several times. In other words, there is a challenge for the teacher in finding and using material and activities, and tools and techniques that will provide a considerable amount of repetition, consolidation and further practice of the various items in the syllabus.
